With this war, hundreds and thousands of men from every corner of the nation, thrust together as vast armies, bring with them as their primary form of entertainment musical expressions, song-writing styles and traditions previously separated by regional, ethnic and immigrant boundaries.  The American folk song, the sentimental ballad, the inspirational anthem and the religious spiritual are suddenly shared by every American and spread like wildfire across the entire nation.  It is a fire war could not put out and, in fact, has only burned brighter and higher over the years flashing into existence the “music industry” we know and celebrate today.

There are no recording artists better then the cutting-edge, country trio, Rascal Flatts to bring this important aspect of our nation’s history to life.  Having placed 13 #1 singles and 20 Top Tens, seen every one of their studio albums go multi-platinum, with total sales approaching 19 million, been the ACM and CMA top vocal group for an unprecedented seven years in a row, and won multiple American Music Awards and People’s Choice Awards, they have in their ten years together redefined the American sound.

They are excited to produce the soundtrack album for this series, an album that along with Jay DeMarcus’s orchestral score will include original songs by Rascal Flatts as well as their original interpretations of some of the most important and beloved songs in our musical history.  It will also feature original and traditional tracks from their industry peers in a celebration of the birth of the American music tradition.  Joining them so far are recording stars: Kix Brooks, Laura Bell Bundy, John Ondrasik (Five For Fighting),and Dwight Yoakam.

Additionally, Rascal Flatts will be playing featured roles in the series, roles that bring to life the true stories of the private soldiers from both sides of the conflict.

Graphic Novel

How does Ratfist, Earthworm Jim and Tommysaurus Rex stack up against the likes of Robert E. Lee, U.S. Grant and Lincoln? Quite well in the capable hands of renowned artist/writer Doug TenNapel. Doug is on board to oversee the creation of a companion trilogy to the television series which will expand upon select characters from “To Appomattox” while introducing historical figures and events not covered in the 8 hour offering.  Doug’s team will include some of the most talented comic artists in the industry who will bring their unique styles and impressive storytelling abilities to this project.

As one of the groundbreaking video game creators in the mid-90’s, Doug TenNapel took the medium by storm with the landmark game Earthworm Jim, an odd array of quirky action, non-sequitor humor, and game play innovation. With ten books to his name TenNapel has created a body of work both visually engaging and heartfelt, featuring an iconoclastic mix of science fiction and philosophy. Although an artist at heart, Doug’s focus on character and story-structure is what separates him from the rest, even lecturing on the subject around the world. Hollywood has scooped up the rights to several of his graphic novels: Creature Tech, Tommysaurus Rex, Monster Zoo and Ghostopolis. Doug is the creator of the Nickelodeon show Catscratch and the internet serialSockbaby. He’s also found time to produce internet shorts for Japanese multiplatinum pop-star Shoko Nakagawa, and a puppet animated sequence for The Sarah Silverman Show!

TenNapel has just finished his next graphic novel called Bad Island to be published through Scholastic’s Graphix imprint.
